Bathurst hosted the Zebra Finch National Competition over the weekend at Mount Panorama.
This was the first time the Nationals have been hosted outside of a metropolitan area and attracedt birds and breeders from across the country for the three-day event.
“It is a great time for Zebra Finch breeders here in Bathurst,” judge and local breeder, Bill Sewell told Bathurst City Life.
“To be able to attract the nationals away from the big cities is a great win for us here and a reward for the hard work local breeders have had in developing finch breeding in town.”
Bill said only the best birds in the country were in Bathurst at the volunteers shed behind the pit area at Mount Panorama.
“Birds were selected from each state to take part in the competition – so there were some really cracking examples of all Zebra Finch styles in town next weekend,” Bill explained.
Saturday’s open day for the community was a huge success with large numbers of people on hand to view the judging and even buy a number of birds which were on offer.
