From the first chord strum and note, I knew last Wednesday night at Two Heads Brewing was going to be a special one.
Local musician, Lueth Ajak took to the modest stage for the monthly album series, performing songs from the Marvin Gaye classic What’s goin’ on.
Displaying the pitch-perfect vocals and mastery of the loop pedal, for which he is synonymous, Ajak delivered a floorless rendition of the album, plus a number of other Gaye tunes, sprinkled in with a marvellous collection of trivia about the soul singer – a narrative which highlighted the performers obvious love of the source material.
But this was not a simple karaoake night of the music of Marvin Gaye. No, Ajak made the songs his own, putting his own mesmerising spin on each tune, leaving the vast majority of the crowd spellbound during the entire two-hour performance.
For the first time, the album night was moved to the front bar at Two Heads to accommodate the crowds which are booking these nights ot weeks in advance.
It made for a better performance and is a move I hope the venue sticks with in the future.
If you are lover of live music and have never experienced an album night at Two Heads Brewing, I strongly suggest you get online and get yourelf a ticket.
