It is Children’s Book Week next week and this annual celebration of Australian Children’s books and literature will see lots of costumes and dress ups being created in households all across Bathurst.

Organised by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), Book Week brings schools, bookstores, libraries and authors together with children to celebrate children’s books and the joy of reading.

The CBCA will again be awarding Book of The Year prizes to the best books released for kids and young adults throughout the past year. Winners will be announced tomorrow 18 August, with awards for the Best Picture, Early Childhood and Information books, as well as those for Younger and Older readers.

There are some fantastic Australian authors and illustrators with wonderful books who have been shortlisted this year and it will be great to see who the winners will be.

BooksPlus and Bathurst Library have teamed up again to celebrate Children’s Book Week from Wednesday 23through to Friday 25 August.

This year, one of the world’s best loved children’s book characters, the Gruffalo, will be coming back to Bathurst to appear at the Library. The Gruffalo is the creation of English children’s author, Julia Donaldson, and beautifully illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

Translated into more than 50 languages, it has become a modern classic and is beloved by children the world over.

Come along to the Library and hear some of the wonderful award-winning CBCA stories as well as Gruffalo and other Julia Donaldson stories.

Make sure to wear a Gruffalo mask for the chance to win some great prizes.

Times for the sessions available from BooksPlus and Bathurst Library. Have a very happy Children’s Book Week everyone!
